If you would like to dive into the jewellery making process, get your hands dirty and make your dream wedding bands by hand, whether you have a specific ring design in mind or want to explore possibilities with my guidance, this class is for you.
You will be assisted throughout the entire process, the level of difficulty will be adapted to your abilities and no prior knowledge is necessary. Participants are always impressed with the fantastic professional results; follow Maca’s expert guidance and you will come out of the class with unique high quality wedding bands, customised to you.
Most wedding bands will allow stamping letters or numbers on the inside for personalisation, alternatively for thinner bands, laser engraving can be outsourced for an extra cost. Please inquire within.
You choose your preferred times and dates, depending on studio availability, both participants must attend the same date and time, valid for one year from date of purchase. Studio is open 9- 5 weekdays. Some Saturdays may become available upon request.
What type of wedding bands can we make and how long will it take?
A simple, elegant and professionally finished set of wedding bands are possible to make in a 3 hr period. Choose between half round, rectangular or square profile bands to keep the design simple and classic.
If your wedding band idea is different, a bit more complex, needs to fit right beside your engagement ring or is an alternative profile such as round, knife edge or curved etc. you will need 4 hrs or more depending on the complexity of the design.
If we go over the nr of hrs purchased an additional $128.33 charge per hr will be applied.
What can I learn/make?
How to alloy precious metals (melt and change the law/karat of your unwanted silver or gold jewellery), elemental ring band fabrication, surface texturing, soldering, stamping, polishing and much more. Professional stone setting can be arranged separately as it is not suitable for beginners.
Are materials Included in this class?
Materials (precious metals and solders) are not included in this class. It's recommended that participants buy their own metals and solders independently at market prices. To learn the price per gram of precious metals and solders (Gold, in any carat, Silver etc) call a local precious metals dealership such as Regal Castings. Maca can arrange all this for you for a $30 buyers fee on top of costs. Please inquire within.
For example a 2.5mm wide, half round profile band, size S, we need approximately 5 grams of 9kt gold. For a 2.5mm half round band size N we need approximately 4 grams of 9kt gold. For two 9kt gold rings we need approximately 0.25 gr of 9kt easy solder.
These estimations will vary depending on the metal of choice, and proportions and size of rings. Please inquire within.
Maca encourages melting down unwanted jewellery to make new wedding bands but this requires more time. If you wish to use unwanted jewellery to make your new rings please purchase the 4 hr option. Please email photos of the unwanted jewellery for more guidance.
